Who you are talking to

Sagar Mahra has run his own ARAG agency in Aachen since 2017, with a team of five. He is a tied insurance agent (gebundener Vertreter) under § 34d (7) of the German Trade Regulation Act, the GewO.

That classification has a practical meaning. He works for one insurer, ARAG, and he is not an independent insurance broker (Makler). The upside is that he knows the ARAG terms down to the small print instead of comparing fifty companies on the surface. If another route fits your situation better, he says so.

The office is at Waldstraße 10 in Aachen. Most conversations happen by phone, WhatsApp or video, which works from Berlin or Munich just as well as from Aachen.

Which language the conversation runs in

Insurance German is heavy going even for native speakers. Nobody should sign a contract they cannot read.

Sagar advises in English and Hindi himself. Colleagues in the team cover Arabic and Kurdish. Tell us which language suits you and the right person will call.

What we actually arrange

The German names stay in brackets. Those are the words you will see on every form and hear in every phone call, so recognising them helps.

Legal expenses insurance

Rechtsschutzversicherung

Pays the lawyer, the court and the expert reports when a dispute escalates. The common ones are with an employer, a landlord or a public authority. Read the part about waiting periods below.

Personal liability insurance

Haftpflichtversicherung

Covers the damage you cause to other people. In Germany you are liable with everything you own and there is no upper limit, which is why almost everyone here holds this policy.

Home contents insurance

Hausratversicherung

Covers what is inside the flat: furniture, electronics, clothes, bicycles. Fire, burglary, and water damage from a burst pipe.

Private health insurance

Private Krankenversicherung

An option for the self-employed and for people earning above the threshold for the public system. It is a long-term decision and going back is hard, so it deserves an unhurried conversation.

Business legal protection

Gewerberechtsschutz

For freelancers and small companies: disputes over unpaid invoices, contracts, employees and tax assessments.

Waiting periods, honestly

Legal expenses insurance has a waiting period, in German Wartezeit. As a rule it is three months. The contract starts right away, but a dispute that begins inside those first three months is normally not covered.

Anyone who tells you that you are protected from day one is selling you something. There is one real exception. The tariff called Mietrechtsschutz Sofort covers disputes with a landlord with limited retroactive effect, under conditions that have to be checked before you sign rather than afterwards.

So the order matters. If a conflict is already running, say so in your first sentence. Then we can check what is still possible instead of selling you a policy that will not pay.

Good to know

Questions we get in English

Do you really advise in English?
Yes. Sagar Mahra advises in English himself, so you speak with him directly. Hindi works the same way, and colleagues in the team cover Arabic and Kurdish.
What does the advice cost?
Nothing. We are paid by the insurer, not by you. The first conversation is free and you are not committed to anything afterwards.
Are you a broker?
No. Sagar Mahra is a tied insurance agent (gebundener Vertreter) under § 34d (7) GewO and works for one insurer, ARAG. A broker (Makler) works on the customer's behalf across many insurers. Those are two different legal roles.
My dispute has already started. Am I too late?
Often yes, because legal expenses insurance normally carries a three month waiting period (Wartezeit). The exception is the Mietrechtsschutz Sofort tariff for tenancy disputes, which covers limited retroactive cases. Say in your first message that something is already happening, then we can check it properly.
Do I have to come to Aachen?
No. The office at Waldstraße 10 is open to anyone who wants to come by, but phone, WhatsApp and video work just as well, from anywhere in Germany.
Can you insure my car?
Yes. Car insurance and the eVB number are arranged here as well. Everything else on this page is ARAG cover, arranged here too.
